Nordcap and Rightway Asia had developed a collaborative project to be one step ahead of the new European Energy Label and Ecodesign Regulation requirements, before the law came into force in July 2016 (EU 2015/1094).
The project consisted of two phases: the first focused on developing a new green product line (with Class A products in stainless steel and abs) and the second on adapting the entire range of equipment to the new energy labelling regulation and its subsequent updates.
Nordcap is a leader in refrigeration and commercial equipment in Germany, offering a catalogue of over 6,500 products, with an annual turnover of 57 million euros and more than 130 employees.
The European Energy Label and Ecodesign Regulation posed several challenges for Nordcap as the leading refrigeration company in Germany, from improving its product range’s efficiency to adapting their energy labelling.
Nordcap aimed to create a new green line to lead the transition towards a more efficient and sustainable offering of hospitality equipment in order to get ahead of the regulation’s requirements. Furthermore, this new line had to be ready before the regulation came into effect.
In addition, the company also faced the challenge of correctly adapting the energy labels of its full range to comply with the new legislation, avoiding possible stock-outs or delays in its operations. Later, in 2019, a new legislation made it mandatory to register professional storage products in the database EPREL(European Product Registry for Energy Labelling).

Nordcap decided to work hand in hand with the R+D team of Rightway Asia to develop the new green line, which resulted in a complete range of stainless steel (CR7/CN7) and abs models (CR4, CR6/CN4, CN6) with energy efficiency class A.
The green line was successfully launched to the market before the new regulation came into effect in July 2016, enabling Nordcap to anticipate the needs of its customers by offering a sustainable and efficient option to equip any kind of hospitality business.
Furthermore, the company also decided to rely on the “Ready to Go Service” offered by RWA to take care of the correct registration on the EPREL (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling), which became mandatory in 2019. As experts in refrigeration manufacturing and exports, RWA’s team laid out, coordinated and executed the adaptation process. The team took charge of updating each product’s information and keeping the European Union properly notified.
In doing so, Nordcap ensured that their products properly complied with all the requirements of the new legislation and guaranteed streamlined operations, saving time and effort.
