Are you clear about what the new European regulations on energy labels that came into force last March 2021 consist of?
Do you want to know about the new energy labels? And what types of refrigeration equipment are included in the updated regulation?
We’ll explain to you everything you need to know.
What does it say?
With the new regulation [Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/2018 of 11 March 2019], the European Union aims to encourage sales of more efficient products with lower energy consumption levels.
The regulation makes improvements in the information shown on energy labels, establishes the obligation to register any equipment sold in the EU in the EPREL database (European Product Database for Energy Labelling) and expands the range of products that have to comply with the regulation.
What are the new categories of refrigeration products covered by the regulation?
The regulation includes refrigeration equipment used for direct sales: ice cream freezers, beverage coolers, supermarket cabinets and gelato scooping cabinets.
What is the new European Energy label like?
The main difference between the new label and its predecessors is that it includes a QR code that enables the customer to access the product information.
What other energy labels are still in use for refrigeration equipment?
There is refrigeration equipment that is still using energy labels approved in former regulations, so we can find both labels on the market. Is the case of cabinets, counters and freezers, that follow the regulation 2015/1094/EU and of wine cellars, chest coolers and freezers, following the regulation 2019/2016/EU.
